Introduction
The Robotic Club organized a 9-day hands-on training workshop for faculty members on Robotics and Embedded Systems. The workshop aimed to provide practical exposure to electronic components, microcontrollers, sensors, motor drivers, and programming skills essential for robotic applications. The training was designed to equip faculty members with the necessary skills to guide students in the newly developed Exploration Laboratory, set to be introduced in the Even semester of the academic year 2024-25.
Workshop Schedule and Topics Covered:
The workshop was structured into three daily sessions covering theoretical concepts, programming, and hands-on practice.
Topics Covered in Detail
• Introduction to Basic Electronic Components (Resistors, Capacitors, Diodes, Transistors, Motors, Connectors, etc.)
• Introduction to Electronic Lab Instruments (Multimeter, Power Supply, Oscilloscope, etc.)
• Soldering Techniques
• Microcontrollers and Arduino Uno Board Overview
• Integrated Development Environment (IDE) Setup and Basic Programming
• GPIO, Analog, and PWM Programming
• DC Motor and IR Sensor Interfacing
• Motor Driver Integration and Robot Motion Control
• LCD and Ultrasonic Sensor Interfacing
• Bluetooth Module Integration for Remote Control
• PWM Applications in Robotics
• Servo Motor Interfacing and Advanced Programming
• Robot Navigation and Line Following Algorithms
• Bluetooth-controlled Robot Development
Workshop Outcomes:
1. Faculty Training: 21 faculty members and 8 lab assistants were successfully trained in Robotics and Embedded Systems.
2. Project Development: Participants developed a line-following robot and a Bluetooth-controlled robot using Arduino microcontrollers.
3. Lab Training: Faculty members are now equipped to train students in the newly developed Exploration Laboratory.
4. Curriculum Development: A structured Exploration Laboratory syllabus was prepared, which will be introduced in the Even semester of AY 2024-25 (January 2025 – April 2025).
Conclusion
1. The hands-on training program was highly effective in enhancing the technical expertise of faculty members in robotics and embedded systems.
2. The workshop provided an in-depth understanding of microcontroller-based systems and their applications, ensuring that the faculty is well-prepared to mentor students in innovative robotic projects.
3. The introduction of the Exploration Laboratory syllabus will further strengthen practical learning, fostering research and development in robotics at the institution.
