Design Thinking and Product Development Workshop

Day 1: Introduction to Design Thinking and Product Development (11 Dec. 2023)

Overview:

  • The workshop commenced with an introduction to design thinking principles and the product development lifecycle. Participants were introduced to the importance of a user-centered approach in problem-solving.

Activities:

  • Engaging ice-breaker activities and team-building exercises set a collaborative tone for the workshop. Participants were grouped for the upcoming hands-on activities.

Sessions:

  • The first session covered the fundamentals of design thinking, emphasizing empathy, ideation, and prototyping. A brief overview of the product development process was also provided.

Day 2 & 3: Hands-on Application of Design Thinking (12 Dec. 2023 & 15 Dec. 2023)

Hands-on Activities:

  • Participants engaged in interactive sessions, applying design thinking principles to real-world challenges. Group projects allowed them to ideate, prototype, and receive feedback from peers and facilitators.

Expert Sessions:

  • Renowned experts in design and product development conducted specialized sessions, sharing practical insights and case studies. Participants learned about industry best practices and successful implementations of design thinking.

Day 4: Networking and Peer Collaboration (16 Dec. 2023)

Networking Session:

  • A dedicated networking event provided participants with the opportunity to connect with like-minded peers, professionals, and experts in the field. This session facilitated knowledge exchange and potential collaboration for future projects.

Pitch Preparation:

  • Participants were guided on how to prepare and present their innovative ideas effectively. This preparation set the stage for the pitch session scheduled for the following day.

Day 5: One-day visit to the Tata Center for Technology and Design (TCTD) at IIT Bombay (20 Dec. 2023)

On December 20, 2023, participants of the Design Thinking and Product Development workshop organized by SAKEC’s Technology Business Incubator embarked on an insightful one-day visit to the Tata Center for Technology and Design (TCTD) at IIT Bombay. The visit provided a unique opportunity for attendees to witness firsthand the practical applications of design thinking principles in a renowned academic and research setting. Engaging discussions with experts at TCTD, interactive sessions, and exposure to cutting-edge projects enriched the participants’ understanding of the intersection between technology and design. This visit to TCTD served as a valuable complement to the workshop, offering a glimpse into real-world implementations and inspiring innovative thinking among the aspiring entrepreneurs.

Day 6: Pitching Innovative Ideas  (24 Dec. 2023)

Pitch Session:

  • Participants presented their innovative ideas for an internship at SAKEC’s Technology Business Incubator. The pitches were evaluated by a panel of judges, including industry experts and TBI representatives.
  • Internship of students was started from 26th Dec. 2023.

Feedback and Reflection:

  • Each participant received constructive feedback on their pitches, focusing on strengths and areas for improvement. The session concluded with a reflection on the key takeaways from the workshop.

  • In Presentation Nitish Metha briefed about SP-TBI and gave a detailed Summary of SP-TBI progress and details of SP TBI team.
  • He also explains details of NIDHI-PRAYAS (NIDHI-PRomotion and Acceleration of Young and Aspiring technology entrepreneur) is an umbrella program conceived and developed by the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India, for nurturing ideas and innovations (knowledge-based and technology-driven) into successful startups. and
  • NIDHI- SEED SUPPORT (SS) PROGRAM aims at providing financial assistance to startups for proof of concept, prototype development, product trials, market entry and commercialization etc.
  • He also gives insights about the process of preincubation, post incubation and further , and potential collaboration points.

Visit to Idea Lab:

AICTE has decided to establish (Idea Development, Evaluation & Application) Lab in SPIT to, encouraging students to apply science, technology engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fundamentals towards enhanced hands-on experience, learning by doing and even product visualization.

  • Overview of the Idea Lab facilities.
  • Examine a few innovative projects or prototypes.
  • Idea Lab consists of a Video Recording Room, 3D Printers, PCB Design and Prototyping Machine, Mechanical drilling machines and many more machines for prototyping and product development.

InnoPitch Fiesta: Igniting Brilliance! held on the 14th of February, 2024, at the SAKEC TBI Ground Foyer, was an electrifying event that provided a platform for students to showcase their groundbreaking projects and pitch innovative ideas. A total of 11 students participated in the event, with six of them presenting their cutting-edge concepts.

The event commenced at 12:00 noon, creating an atmosphere charged with creativity and enthusiasm. The diverse range of projects spanned various fields, reflecting the depth and breadth of talent within the participating students. The engaging presentations not only captivated the audience but also demonstrated the students’ commitment to innovation and problem-solving. The event was not just a showcase but a dynamic forum where students sought valuable support and feedback to further refine and develop their ideas.

The presentations covered a spectrum of ideas, from technological innovations to sustainable solutions, showcasing the multidisciplinary nature of the ideas. The interactive nature of the event allowed for constructive discussions, with participants engaging in insightful dialogues with the audience and fellow presenters.

The InnoPitch Fiesta served as a testament to the vibrant innovation ecosystem at SAKEC TBI, fostering a culture of creativity and collaboration.
