Design Thinking and Product Development Workshop

Day 1: Introduction to Design Thinking and Product Development (11 Dec. 2023)

Overview:

The workshop commenced with an introduction to design thinking principles and the product development lifecycle. Participants were introduced to the importance of a user-centered approach in problem-solving.

Activities:

Engaging ice-breaker activities and team-building exercises set a collaborative tone for the workshop. Participants were grouped for the upcoming hands-on activities.

Sessions:

The first session covered the fundamentals of design thinking, emphasizing empathy, ideation, and prototyping. A brief overview of the product development process was also provided.

Day 2 & 3: Hands-on Application of Design Thinking (12 Dec. 2023 & 15 Dec. 2023)

Hands-on Activities:

Participants engaged in interactive sessions, applying design thinking principles to real-world challenges. Group projects allowed them to ideate, prototype, and receive feedback from peers and facilitators.

Expert Sessions:

Renowned experts in design and product development conducted specialized sessions, sharing practical insights and case studies. Participants learned about industry best practices and successful implementations of design thinking.

Day 4: Networking and Peer Collaboration (16 Dec. 2023)

Networking Session:

A dedicated networking event provided participants with the opportunity to connect with like-minded peers, professionals, and experts in the field. This session facilitated knowledge exchange and potential collaboration for future projects.

Pitch Preparation:

Participants were guided on how to prepare and present their innovative ideas effectively. This preparation set the stage for the pitch session scheduled for the following day.

Day 5: One-day visit to the Tata Center for Technology and Design (TCTD) at IIT Bombay (20 Dec. 2023)

On December 20, 2023, participants of the Design Thinking and Product Development workshop organized by SAKEC’s Technology Business Incubator embarked on an insightful one-day visit to the Tata Center for Technology and Design (TCTD) at IIT Bombay. The visit provided a unique opportunity for attendees to witness firsthand the practical applications of design thinking principles in a renowned academic and research setting. Engaging discussions with experts at TCTD, interactive sessions, and exposure to cutting-edge projects enriched the participants’ understanding of the intersection between technology and design. This visit to TCTD served as a valuable complement to the workshop, offering a glimpse into real-world implementations and inspiring innovative thinking among the aspiring entrepreneurs.

Day 6: Pitching Innovative Ideas (24 Dec. 2023)

Pitch Session:

Participants presented their innovative ideas for an internship at SAKEC’s Technology Business Incubator. The pitches were evaluated by a panel of judges, including industry experts and TBI representatives.
Internship of students was started from 26th Dec. 2023.

Feedback and Reflection:

Each participant received constructive feedback on their pitches, focusing on strengths and areas for improvement. The session concluded with a reflection on the key takeaways from the workshop.

Presentation by Nitish Metha Incubation Manager:

In Presentation Nitish Metha briefed about SP-TBI and gave a detailed Summary of SP-TBI progress and details of SP TBI team.
He also explains details of NIDHI-PRAYAS (NIDHI-PRomotion and Acceleration of Young and Aspiring technology entrepreneur) is an umbrella program conceived and developed by the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India, for nurturing ideas and innovations (knowledge-based and technology-driven) into successful startups. and
NIDHI- SEED SUPPORT (SS) PROGRAM aims at providing financial assistance to startups for proof of concept, prototype development, product trials, market entry and commercialization etc.
He also gives insights about the process of preincubation, post incubation and further , and potential collaboration points.

Visit to Idea Lab:

AICTE has decided to establish (Idea Development, Evaluation & Application) Lab in SPIT to, encouraging students to apply science, technology engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fundamentals towards enhanced hands-on experience, learning by doing and even product visualization.

Idea Lab consists of a Video Recording Room, 3D Printers, PCB Design and Prototyping Machine, Mechanical drilling machines and many more machines for prototyping and product development.

InnoPitch Fiesta: Igniting Brilliance! held on the 14th of February, 2024, at the SAKEC TBI Ground Foyer, was an electrifying event that provided a platform for students to showcase their groundbreaking projects and pitch innovative ideas. A total of 11 students participated in the event, with six of them presenting their cutting-edge concepts.

The event commenced at 12:00 noon, creating an atmosphere charged with creativity and enthusiasm. The diverse range of projects spanned various fields, reflecting the depth and breadth of talent within the participating students. The engaging presentations not only captivated the audience but also demonstrated the students’ commitment to innovation and problem-solving. The event was not just a showcase but a dynamic forum where students sought valuable support and feedback to further refine and develop their ideas.

The presentations covered a spectrum of ideas, from technological innovations to sustainable solutions, showcasing the multidisciplinary nature of the ideas. The interactive nature of the event allowed for constructive discussions, with participants engaging in insightful dialogues with the audience and fellow presenters.

The hands-on workshop “DevBoard – Build it: From PCB Soldering to Sensor Interfacing,” organized by the Electronics & Communication (Advanced Communication Technology) Department in collaboration with IETE-SAKEC, on 11th and 12th January 2025 was a resounding success!

Over two days, students enthusiastically participated in interactive sessions that provided practical insights into PCB soldering and sensor interfacing using ESP-32 and NodeMCU development boards. The structured approach, combining theory and application, empowered students with essential skills in microcontroller programming and real-time data acquisition.

We would like to thank Ms. Amisha Bhoir and Ms. Monika Ingale, our event coordinators, for their hard work in making this session a success. Our sincere appreciation goes out to our Principal, Dr. Bhavesh Patel, and our Head of Department, Mr. Shridhar Sahu, for their unwavering encouragement and support.

We also appreciate the hard work and dedication of all Lab Assistants, without whom this event would not have been possible. Their efforts played a crucial role in ensuring a seamless and enriching experience for all participants.

App Development Internship With Python

From 1st to 4th January 2025, The Department of Electronics Engineering (VLSI Design and Technology) conducted a python app development internship for students. The Students learnt the basics of python right from the app development side and learning both front end and back end and integrating them to make a fully functional application. The session(s) were delivered by Prof. Nirmol Munvar (Assistant Professor) from VLSI design and Technology with Prof. Mridul Saxena as Co-Coordinator for the event

The valedictory of the same was held at 18th January 2025, for which students presented projects made after learning from the internships.

The event “Creative Shield: Understanding Copyright and IPR” aimed to educate participants about the fundamentals of copyright law and intellectual property rights (IPR). It focused on raising awareness about the importance of protecting creative works, including literary, artistic, musical, and technological innovations such as software and mobile applications. ECS Events

The SAKEC Robo Club, in collaboration with the ECS Department, organized a session, “Mobile App Development using Flutter” on January 25, 2025, at Lab 202 from 10:00 am to 4 pm. Mr. Manohar Acharya was the speaker of this event and Prof Manjusha Kulkarni was the Event Coordinator.

Students learned Dart Language from scratch in this session, which forms the foundation of App Development using Flutter. The session covered how the mobile applications work behind the scenes, with practical demonstrations of API Testing. In addition, version controlled systems like Git and GitHub were introduced, teaching the students how to collaborate efficiently on app development projects.

The program facilitated hands-on experience and deepened the understanding of mobile app development using Flutter.

The SAKEC-IETE Centre of Excellence (COE), in collaboration with the Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering Department, successfully concluded two transformative initiatives: the Winter Internship Program 2024 and the Advanced Internship Program.

Program Highlights:

– Winter Internship Program 2024:

– Participation: 30 students from various streams.

– Key Features:

– Hands-on training on *Ansys HFSS 3D Electromagnetic Simulation Software* and *Vector Network Analyzer (VNA)*.

– Capstone projects solving real-world electromagnetic and telecommunication challenges.

– Advanced Internship Program:

– Duration: 16th December 2024 – 4th January 2025

– Participation: 08 students from various Institute.

– Key Features:

– Advanced training with industry-standard tools.

– Focus on skill development in high-demand engineering fields.

Key Achievements:

– Enhanced technical proficiency with cutting-edge tools.

– Problem-solving and teamwork skills developed through project-based learning.

– Career readiness with specialized knowledge bridging the gap between academia and industry.

Both programs were hosted at Lab 303, SAKEC IETE-COE, providing access to state-of-the-art facilities and expert instructors.
